Hospital Tour

Tonight, Andy and I went on a tour of the hospital where we will deliver our baby. It took about an hour and we got to see all the different rooms: the triage rooms, the labor & delivery & recovery room, the mother/baby room, the nursery, and the waiting room where the families can wait. All the LDR rooms and the mother/baby rooms were nice and private with their own bathrooms, and of course cable tv and wi-fi. Nowhere did it smell like a hospital which is great. All of the staff were friendly too. The tour guide nurse explained what happens in each room and the process of moving from room to room. She said she had 5 children, delivered them all at this hospital, and so she was very knowledgeable and could answer all the questions that were asked. The only disappointing thing was that there were no babies in the nursery at all. They were all with their mothers as is highly encouraged. The tour guide nurse explained the importance of the skin-to-skin contact of mother and baby during the first hours of life. It helps in many ways including warmth, bonding, and can help with breastfeeding. And not to mention the fact that you've worked so hard for your baby so you want to keep them with you as much as you can.
